Every Spring in Lewisville, the Same Pattern Repeats
When temperatures finally warm up after winter and Lewisville homeowners start their irrigation systems, our phones ring with predictable regularity. The backflow preventer is leaking.
Zone four won’t come on. The controller seems dead. Water pressure isn’t what it used to be. These aren’t random coincidences, they’re seasonal patterns we’ve watched repeat year after year across every neighborhood in Lewisville. After 70+ years of servicing irrigation systems here, we can almost predict which problems will spike during each season.
Spring startup reveals freeze damage. Summer heat stresses controllers and causes valve diaphragms to fail. Fall brings winterization calls, and winter freeze events lead to urgent repairs for burst backflow preventers and cracked pipes.
Why Lewisville’s Weather Beats Up Your System
Lewisville sits at a point in North Texas where weather hits irrigation systems from multiple angles. Winter freezes strike harder than areas just a few miles south, putting backflow preventers and exposed piping at greater risk. Summer temperatures climb high enough to stress components through extended daily operation. Spring storms bring hail that damages sprinkler heads and controllers,
while constant temperature swings cause soil movement that stresses underground pipes and fittings.
Freeze events are especially tough on backflow preventers, those brass assemblies near your water meter. Water trapped inside them freezes and expands, cracking housings and breaking internal parts. Sometimes the damage is obvious, with water spraying everywhere. Other times, cracks remain hidden until spring startup reveals a system that won’t hold pressure.
Summer heat, on the other hand, affects controllers and valves. Controllers mounted in full sun experience temperature extremes that degrade electronics faster, while valve diaphragms become brittle and eventually tear. Sprinkler heads exposed to constant heat develop seal problems and start leaking when they should stay retracted.

Eric Marinez & American Sprinkler
This is the second time Keith did our annual checkup. He was fast, thorough, and informative both times! This is a great company that provides great service.
I’m so thankful that American Sprinkler Repair worked me into their schedule so quickly that Eric was here the next day. I really appreciate Eric’s professionalism, courtesy and attention to detail. Thank you!
We added a Pergola out back a couple of years ago and unbeknownst to me, didn’t realize they hit/cracked one of the lines. I had that zone shut off for almost 2 years now. Eric was able to locate and dig out the leak—which was a nailbiter for me because initially looked like a T-connection buried/surrounded in concrete, thank goodness it was a 45° turn instead. He was also able to replace and raise several of the yard Rainbird heads in no time and now they’re all spraying normally again. We have an older home repairs are always touch and go.
I've used American Sprinkler twice now and their crew is always quick and professional and the prices are reasonable.
Keith was professional & did a great job.

Keith came in, was easy to talk to and gave us a fair estimate and got to work. He was accurate with his estimate and the time. Cant ask for anything more. Will use them/him again.
What We’ve Learned From Decades of Lewisville Seasons
After decades of Lewisville sprinkler repair work, we’ve learned exactly how local systems age and fail. We know which valve models used in certain years develop predictable issues, which sprinkler head brands hold up better, and how soil in different neighborhoods affects buried piping.
That experience allows us to prepare ahead of time.
When spring startup season hits and everyone’s discovering freeze damage at once, our trucks are already stocked with backflow preventer parts.
When summer heat causes valve failures, we’re carrying the diaphragms and solenoids most likely to be needed. And when early freeze warnings appear in fall, we’re ready to help homeowners winterize systems before damage occurs.
This long-term familiarity doesn’t just help us plan inventory, it helps us diagnose problems faster. When a Lewisville homeowner calls in April saying their system won’t pressurize, we already suspect freeze damage. When someone calls in August about a zone not running, we think heat-related valve failure. Recognizing these seasonal patterns saves time and helps us arrive with the right parts on the first visit.
